    Description

    These vintage 1960's porcelain
    dunbori
    bowl with lids are hand-thrown and hand-painted with hiragana script writing on both.  However, they are not identical as one can quickly see that one bowl has double blue rings around the base and lid handle whereas the other has no rings.
    Donburi
    (literally "bowl") is a Japanese "rice-bowl dish" consisting of meat, vegetables or other ingredients simmered together and served over rice in an oversized rice bowl which are also called donburi. If one needs to distinguish, the bowl is called
    donburi-bachi
    and the food is called
    donburi-mono
    .  Over the years, it has been infrequently used for
    kastudon, oyakadon
    and other such Japanese meals while our children were growing up. They have been seldom used since they left home. There are no chips, cracks, or damage of any kind that can be seen by eye or felt by hand; however, there are several
    wabis sabi
    imperfection from hand painting and firing that can be seen in the pictures.  These bowls were not among the items that were chosen by our children or their families to be kept. The bowl without blue rings (first single bowl pictured) measures 4.25" high with the lid in place, 6" diameter, with a 2.625" diameter base and less than .5" diameter rise underneath the bowl.  The lid measures 5.25" diameter, less than 2" diameter top and a .5" rise underneath that serves as a handle to move the lid.
    The second bowl with blue rings measures 4.125" high with the lid in place, 6" diameter, with a 2.25" diameter base and less than .5" diameter rise underneath the bowl.  The lid measures 5.125" diameter, greater than 2.25" diameter top and a less than .5" rise underneath that serves as a handle to move the lid. Both
    bowls and lids together weigh 2 lb. 15 oz.  All pictures were taken in a camera tent.  The covered the chop sticks are not for sale, but to illustrate the size of the complete
    dunbori
