    Description

This is a set of 3 (three) vintage Japanese Showa Era (c. 1950s) ceramic
    hashioki
(chopstick rests) in the shape of
    nasu
(eggplants). The eggplant is a symbol of good luck; one especially associated with new years and the saying that if you dream of

Ichi Fuji, Ni Taka, San Nasubi
” [1 fuji, 2 hawks, 3 eggplants], you'll have a lucky year. The eggplants are primary a deep indigo color, with some white and the eggplant tops are colored green. Another reason they are considered good luck, is that
    nasu
    can also mean 'to achieve'.
Since they are each handmade, measurements vary slightly, but they measure about 3" long by 5/8" wide by 1/2" tall (7.5 x 1.5 x 1 cm). Having been in storage for decades this plate remains in
    fine condition
    for its age.
PLEASE NOTE the chopsticks in picture 8 are NOT included.
